SECO Energy, the nation’s seventh-largest electric cooperative, officially broke ground on the future site of its multi-building Corporate Headquarters and Central Operations Center in Sumterville, Florida. This event is a historic milestone in the cooperative’s nearly 90-year history – marking the beginning of construction on a new campus that celebrates its heritage in Central Florida and its ongoing long-term investment in the communities served by SECO.

In a ceremony attended by elected officials, federal, state and local community leaders, SECO Energy’s Board of Trustees, Executives, and SECO employees, the cooperative unveiled plans for the new facilities before breaking ground. Construction is set to begin immediately following the ceremony and is expected to be completed in 2028. SECO’s new facilities support future growth in the area, improve efficiency and service capabilities, and reflect a long-term investment in Sumter County.

SECO Energy's updated Corporate Headquarters and Central Operations Center will include modern and functional design elements focused on the SECO team’s ability to serve its members. These facilities will feature a modern warehouse and logistics system that will allow materials, equipment, and crews to move more efficiently – and most importantly, improve safety for the entire SECO team. Additionally, the new facilities will have covered areas for trucks, a dedicated pole yard, and staging space, all designed to help employees prepare for storms and restoration events with unprecedented efficiency.

Most importantly, this investment is about the safety of SECO employees who put their lives on the line to provide power to the communities SECO serves, providing safer workspaces, improved equipment access, and organized staging areas. At its core, this project is about preparing SECO for the future while taking better care of the employees that comprise the cooperatives' strength.

SECO Energy’s CEO Curtis Wynn addressed the crowd during the Groundbreaking Ceremony, “We are very proud of what we’ve built here in Sumter County, and our presence throughout the Central Florida communities that we serve. Celebrations like today only happen through the culmination of hard work and dedication to this project at all levels of our organization. Many of the key project leaders are here today, and I am extremely grateful for their contributions. Our new campus embodies collaboration, and commitment to our team and the members who inspire us to serve.”

Wynn continued, “This state-of-the-art campus will bring hundreds of employees together in one place, providing much needed facility upgrades that will drive innovation and strengthen our position as one of the nation’s fastest growing electric cooperatives.”

President of SECO Energy’s Board of Trustees, Gerald Anderson, offered the following comments during the ceremony. “This is a meaningful day for us at SECO Energy. Celebrating our Corporate Headquarters and Central Operations Center groundbreaking isn’t just about starting a construction project. It’s about building for the future in a very intentional way. This investment is closely aligned with who we are and what we stand for. Our mission has always been to provide safe, reliable, and affordable service to our members. This project supports that in a very real, tangible way and reflects our commitment to fiscal responsibility.”

Guest speakers included a video message from State Representative Samantha Scott from District 52, Sumter County’s Economic Development Director Kristy Russell, and Ed Blommel Regional Director from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
