Power surges are sudden, powerful increases in voltage which can damage or destroy household appliances and electronic devices such as televisions, computers, cordless telephones and more. These power surges or spikes can be caused by many things including the most obvious one – lightning. Surges can also be caused by birds and animals, falling trees, or vehicles crashing into power poles. Whatever the cause of these power surges, the results can be devastating. That’s why SECO offers a surge protection to help our members prevent unnecessary financial loss.

Surge ProductsSECO’s surge protection package consists of a surge protection collar, which attaches to the base of the electric meter to help prevent high voltage spikes and surges from entering the home, plus a bonus interior starter kit designed for the protection of your more sensitive household electronics. Since specific needs will vary, members enrolled in the program can purchase additional surge protectors to suit their individual needs. SECO members can either lease or purchase our Surge Protection package.

Residential surge protection
Every day, destructive electrical spikes and surges — caused by lightning or industrial and automobile accidents with utility poles — pass through the electrical lines and into your home. The system is designed to protect your household appliances from surges, before they enter your home!
Here's how it works...

Meter CollarPrimary protection
Service entrance meter based device
The meter socket unit delivers high-quality residential and light-commercial surge protection. Easily mounted at the electrical meter, the unit utilizes a high-energy suppression circuit providing surge protection for household appliances. The unit is designed for installation into single-phase, four-jaw meter sockets rated up to 200 amps.

Secondary protection
A FREE secondary Surge Protection Kit is also included with the package. It contains the most commonly desired plug-in products, designed to protect sensitive electronics, such as televisions, DVD players and recorders, as well as computers and their peripherals. Additional wall mount units are also included to protect small appliances such as microwave ovens, garage door openers, cordless phone, portable TVs, etc.

Wall outlet tester — Check your outlets!
Prior to installing the surge package it is recommended that you check for proper connection of the outlet receptacle. This can easily be accomplished by using an outlet tester. To learn more about our Surge Protection program contact any SECO office or email us in customer service.
