2007 was another great year for your Co-op

Although new service activity slowed dramatically during 2007, it was still another very good year in terms of service reliability and financial performance. We did see a significant reduction in new service activity throughout 2007, reflecting the general dismal condition of the real estate and new home construction markets. For the year, we added 7,083 new services as compared to 11,945 in 2006. At year-end, we billed 163,641 active accounts. That makes SECO Energy one of the largest cooperatives, out of more than 900 electric cooperatives in the nation. SECO members called on their Cooperative to deliver over 2.7 billion kilowatt-hours to them in 2007, an increase of 106.6 million over 2006. Total utility plant, which includes all of our electrical system, buildings, vehicles, etc., was $520.7 million at year-end, an increase of $49.1 million over year-end 2006. That’s still over $4 million a month of investment in new facilities.

SECO continues to manage growth with no degradation in electric system reliability or erosion in fiscal stability and our system reliability remains high. This is a major accomplishment for a utility with SECO’s growth factor and one which has nearly 11,000 miles of electric lines and 44 substations to maintain in a 2,000 square mile service territory spanning seven counties. It takes a dedicated board of trustees, a highly knowledgeable management team and hard working employees to make it happen.

The bottom line is that we had another very good year financially and continue to be a financially strong cooperative.
