Background:
When the pioneers that began our cooperative began the building process that has led to creation of one of the largest, most modern and technologically advanced electric cooperatives in the nation, they did so for obvious and logical reasons. They wanted the benefits and conveniences that electricity could bring to their lives.No 'for-profit' utility was willing to spend and invest the money to build the infrastructure necessary to serve, what was at that time, a large, sparsely populated rural area. If they wanted the blessings of electricity they would have to do it themselves. So they did! By the sweat of their brow, and the investment of their time and money they began what we all benefit from today. Today the world is faced with the looming crisis of global climate change, and our nation is also faced with our continuing, decades old problem of dependence on other countries for the fossil fuels that we use everyday to maintain our American way of life. We simply need too much of what other nations have and we have too little of what we need to support our lifestyles.
